I really can’t think of a more apt word to describe Joshua except for ‘Gentleman’. He has a very calm and mature aura despite being barely an adult. Cool and collected and ever composed, Joshua is softly spoken and extremely polite and difficult to provoke. It would be easy to overlook him in the wake of some of his louder bandmates but his ‘gentlemanly’ demeanour makes him seem confident and capable despite being in another country, miles away from his family.
Joshua (alongside Vernon) speaks fluent English, he grew up in America speaking English at school and Korean at home with his parents so he is conversational in both languages. He was originally approached by Pledis when performing at a talent show in America. He is a talented guitarist and it is no surprise that his soft, seemingly effortless voice attracted the attention of the talent-scouts.
Jeonghan is often described as Seventeen’s prince and there is no denying that, but I feel that Joshua has more than earned a chance at that title as well. His approach to interviews, fan-meetings and performing is very admirable and he handles even the most awkward situations with aplomb. Bravo, Joshua! I can’t sing his praises enough.
Picking him out from the crowd
Here’s the fun bit! Anyone who is a fan of k-pop knows that there is simply no point in using a hair style or make up style to try and identify a member as they change them like they change their clothes so I will focus on facial features and give you a quick run down of his outfits from a couple of M/Vs / performances to make it a little easier for you to find Seventeen’s very own gentleman in the future.
The easiest way to pick Joshua out of the crowd is actually to look out for his body language. He holds himself impeccably well but he makes it look casual, like he is just naturally that well-put-together. Speaking more of physical traits however, with Joshua you need to watch out for his smile. He has cupid bow lips which are naturally turned up in the corners giving him an open and friendly look.
Mansae MV
For the Mansae promotions, Joshua’s hair was dyed a cool shade of orange/brown. In the Mansae he wears it brushed away from his face in a style that looks effortlessly cool. He can be seen sporting three separate outfits throughout the M/V, his hair colour making him simple to identify.
The first outfit he wears is his school uniform. A simple grey blazer and white shirt much like the others, except Joshua wears his done up all the way with a string tie to pull the whole thing together. He looks very charming.
In clips and shots with his fellow vocal team members, Joshua can also been seen wearing the same white shirt but with a grey jumper over the top.
And then, finally he also appears in several scenes wearing a dark fitted jacket, buttoned up dark cardigan, shirt and blue tie.

Now on to:
Adore U M/C
Joshua is a little bit more tricky to spot in the ‘Adore u’ MV. He has his hair brushed forward, it is gently wavy and a mid-brown colour that suits him very well. Much like the other members he is involved in three different dance sequences throughout the M/V, all of which include a white outfit. He doesn’t really come to the front much in the dance sequences so it’s difficult to find him in that respect but in the sequence set in a large white studio look out for Joshua in the back wearing a hoodie. And in the clouds he can be spotted suited and booted all in.
There are a couple of occasions, however, where Joshua does get his chance to shine. He can be seen here, riding in a car driven by Jeonghan with the rest of the vocal team sporting a cool denim jacket.
And he even gets a chance to show off his guitar skills as part of a band comprising of Joshua, Jun and The8.
Since there isn’t a whole lot of Joshua in the Adore U or Mansae M/Vs compared with some of the other guys I thought I would take a quick look at the Shining Diamond M/V as well.
Shining Diamond M/V
The Shining Diamond M/V is made up of two separate dance routine, one filmed to a white background with the members all dressed in ‘uniform’ style outfits and another set to a black background in which they’re all wearing dark outfits.
Here Joshua can be seen dancing in a smart uniform with Vernon.
And in the darker sequence he can be seen wearing a dark grey leather jacket and black trousers.
In the below gif he is second from the left.
So that is Joshua. I hope this makes it easier to locate him because you wouldn’t want to miss out on any of those smiles.
