S.Coups is the leader of the group. He is also the oldest and boasts the longest training period before debut (6 years) as it was initially planned that he would debut with Nu’est and then, later, Tempest. S.Coups is full of surprises, he is confident, strong and described by the other members as being the ‘manliest’ of them all, but he has also proven himself to be a very sensitive soul.
He carries a lot of responsibility on his shoulders as the group’s overall leader and is always striving to become a better hyung for his members. The moment I fell in love with Seungcheol was the first time I saw him crying because he was worried about his own ability to take care of his ‘kids’, ever since that moment I have harboured an adoration for this little ball of light who is so readily accepting responsibility for things that are above and beyond what he can control.
Despite his democratically voted title of ‘manliest’ S.Coups is also a king when it comes to aegyo! He is surprisingly mischievous and unexpectedly adorable when he opens up to his fans and members alike.
Picking him out from the crowd
Here’s the fun bit! Anyone who is a fan of k-pop knows that there is simply no point in using a hair style or make up style to try and identify a member as they change them like they change their clothes so I will focus on facial features and give you a quick run down of his outfits from a couple of M/Vs / performances to make it a little easier for you to find this cheerful little sweetheart in future.
The things I notice most about S.Coups when I am watching videos of the guys is that he has slightly large eyes than the other guys, this is definitely something to look out for. He also has a very cheeky smile and often bites his lips when he uses it. S.Coups is one of the main rappers so, invariably, his voice is very present in most of Seventeen’s songs. He has a brilliantly versatile middle tone rap as well as a strong singing voice which helps him stand out from the crowd. It’s easy to see why this talented young man is so popular and was chosen by Pledis to lead Seventeen to victory.
Mansae – M/V
Whilst recording the Mansae M/V, S.Coups wore his hair black and styled simply with a fringe. Each of the boys gets a few different outfits and there is quite a lot of him in this video so I will just talk about his most notable appearances:
Firstly, he can be seen setting up the camera for a group shot in the beginning of the M/V. Shortly after that, he emerges from behind his fellow members to turn on the ‘Hoshi Machine’ and begin the dance. Whilst setting up the camera, and later whilst dancing with his members on both and indoor and outdoor sports court, S.Coups can be seen wearing a white t-shirt with a blue design and worn jeans. In this outfit he can also be seen saving the object of his affection from a rogue basketball with a chivalrous dive across the court and then later, sinking a hoop with her help and doing the world’s most adorable celebration dance. Surely she’ll fall for him after that!
S.Coups has a very expressive face making it easy to spot him because he you’ll be drawn to him anyway.
He can also be seen in a ‘school uniform’ style outfit, He can also be seen singing to his crush in a corridor wearing his school uniform, a classic shaped blazer, white t-shirt and grey trousers. In this outfit he can be seen dancing with his members, singing to his crush in the corridor, messing about in a classroom and enjoying a popular playground game. I am sure by know you’re becoming very aware of that trademark smile.
Finally, he appears alongside his fellow ‘Hip-Hop Unit’ members wearing a denim shirt over a white t-shirt.
Simple enough to spot, right? Now let’s look at:
Adore U – M/V
In ‘Adore U’ S.Coups is even easier to pick out. Rather than the black hair of ‘Mansae’, S.Coups was sporting a very trendy (and envy inducing) shade of grey/purple which looked absolutely awesome in the slightly blue/pink tone of the lighting for the M/V.
There are three dance sequences in this M/V which have been cut together to brilliant affect. The first of the sequences has been filmed in what looks like a practice room, in these scenes S.Coups is the only member wearing a black t-shirt. As below:
Another sequence during which the boys dance around a huge white expanse sees S.Coups, with his hair styled in a softer, brushed down style, wearing a white, high-necked jumper.
And finally, in the last dance sequence when the boys can be seen dancing on virtual clouds, S.Coups can be seen rapping with Vernon wearing a round necked t-shirt and a white suit jacket.
Finally, S.Coups, Hoshi and Vernon find themselves sucked into a video game world in which they were retro/futuristic sunglasses and shiny outfits to a backdrop of old school game style graphics and laser style lights.
